Biographical information
Usually known as Bertha.

Bertha was born in Kingersheim on May 28, 1856, the second of three children. She married her husband Daniel in Kingersheim, they had their first child (Jules Gaspard Daniel) there in May 1883, but by April 1884 they were living in Paris, in the 16th arrondisement at rue de Villejust 40.

Bertha was visiting her parents in Kingersheim at the time of the birth of their second child, Fernand Gustave, although the Koechlin family was still living in Paris - her husband Daniel was still there.

By the time of the birth of their last child in 1889, the family seems to have moved back to Kingersheim.

After her husband died in Kingersheim in 1914, after a long and painful illness, Bertha moved to Paris, possibly to be closer to her son Fernand. She died on 29 May 1917 in Paris, at rue Michel-Ange 17. Her funeral was held the next day at the local Protestant church on rue Cortambert 19.

Bertha was apparently a painter, though there is very little information on this. She was seemingly known as Bertha Koechlin-Weiss or Berthe Koechlin. Volume 3 of the Revue Alsacienne Illustrée (Spindler, 1901, p.84) lists one of her paintings "Pivoines et clématites grimpantes" (Peonies and clematis climbing).
